RiskDialogue research study

In partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS), Alberta Health Services and the University of Calgary are completing a study called Make Health Changes Easy – an artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled Dialogue-Driven App for Personalized Cancer Prevention (Short title: RiskDialogue).

The purpose of the RiskDialogue study is to develop a mobile health app for reducing sedentary behaviour (sitting too much). In this study, you are asked to participate in an interview that will help us personalize the app to individual needs and barriers, with the goal of providing tailored recommendations for Canadians to reduce their cancer risk.

Who can be a part of the study?

A person:

  • living in Canada with a smartphone
  • who is 25 years of age or older
  • who sits for 6 or more hours a day
  • who does not participate in 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity per week

It is very important for this study to have a diverse group of participants across Canada. We want to hear from people from diverse backgrounds, including adults:

  • of different genders
  • of the LGBTQ2+ community
  • living in urban and rural or remote areas
  • of different racial or ethnic backgrounds
  • with different income levels
  • with different residency status
To ensure that we have a diverse group of participants in the study, we are asking interested individuals to complete a pre-screening survey, which will collect demographic information. The questions are voluntary. Once participants are selected, the data collected from other individuals will be destroyed. The selected participants will be given a study number so that their responses and demographic data will be linked but their name and contact information are not attached.

What's involved?

Your potential participation in this study will involve a one-time interview through Zoom or by phone that will take approximately 1 hour. During the interview, we will ask you about your knowledge on sedentary behaviour, your sedentary behaviour patterns and barriers that you are facing to reduce sedentary behaviour. We will also ask you about your preferences for features and functionalities to include in the app so it can provide personalized recommendations for users to reduce their sedentary behaviour.

Risks

This study poses minimal risk and taking part in the study is voluntary. The data collected is not personal or sensitive and the research team will protect your confidentiality. To thank you for your participation, you will receive a $50 gift card.

If you’re interested, please complete the pre-screening survey.

If you have any questions, please contact Reilly Parkinson at [email protected].

Participation is not guaranteed, though we sincerely thank all those who are interested!
